| Munich, June 27, 2008: German private radio broadcasting group RCB Radio Center Berlin, operating two popular radio stations in Berlin – 105.5 Spreeradio and 104.6 RTL, Berlins Hit Radio chose MAYAH MERK II as a main codec solution for their recent outside productions. “In 18 Days Around the World” was the title of one of the projects. Morning show presenter Jochen Trus went from Berlin to Singapore, Sydney, Honolulu and New York and took his listeners on this long-distance travel with him. From different studios such as BBC World Studios in Singapore, MCM Entertainment Studios in Sydney and others he went on air at quite different hours to be in time for his daily morning show in Berlin. ISDN was used in all cases as a traditional audio communication interface of the broadcasting industry. To reach the best quality at comparatively low bitrate while keeping the delay as low as possible, engineers of the Spreeradio have used MPEG-4 AAC Low Delay algorithm at 128 kbit/s, which is available as an option for the MERK II codecs. CENTAURI II Audio Gateway Codec was used in the home studio to receive the signal with the voices of the presenter and his many guests from all those different parts of the world. On-Air signal from Berlin has been sent back to MERK II too, so that the outside production looked like being in the home studio with usual cue points for songs, jingles and advertising. In quite a similar manner 104.6 RTL, Berlins Hit Radio utilized MERK II for their recent transmissions from Dubai, Turkey and from the favourite destination of Germans in the summer, from Mallorca. In Dubai for example a hotel suite was turned to a broadcasting studio with the help of the MERK II to report from the promotional tour of the presenters.
