| Munich, 7 November, 2008: More than 40 MAYAH CENTAURI and CENTAURI II Audio Gateway Codecs were used for various communication purposes by German national public broadcaster ZDF for their live coverage of the historical presidential elections in the United States. According to ZDF 9 hours long program in the night on November the 5th was a most successful U.S. elections production that night on the German TV. Over 3000 guests have joined ZDF’s live “election party” in Berlin in the historical building of the former main telegraph office with a huge video wall for voting results and innumerable live reports from the United States. It was like a public viewing event, precisely directed and televised for TV audience at home. MAYAH codecs were positioned in Washington, Berlin and in ZDF headquarters in Mainz. As communication interface traditional ISDN was used. All kinds of contents were transmitted in real-time with minimal delay in all directions. One of the most important types of signals during live TV production is certainly a studio talkback for remote locations. Also a technical communication was supported with flexible devices from MAYAH. Finally audio reports from some of remote locations have been routed via CENTAURI too. To keep the full compatibility with the older infrastructures, as well as for moderate latency and high audio quality there was the traditional MPEG Layer 2 coding algorithm utilized during the production. About CENTAURI II: CENTAURI II supports mono, stereo or multichannel audio for Point-to-Point / Point-to-Multipoint or Uni/Multicast transmissions over IP, ISDN and X.21 / V.35 broadcast interfaces, as well as the widest range of network protocols and coding algorithms: G.722, entire MPEG range, including MPEG-4 HE AAC v2 and MPEG-4 Low Delay, apt-X/Eapt-X, 4SB ADPCM, Linear audio and many others. Its basic functionality includes Backup, Gateway, Twin/Quad Codec and many other features. CENTAURI II supports Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for automation of the IP-based connection according to EBU Audio-over-IP Standard, as well as MPEG TS over IP or ASI interfaces; optional Hot Swappable Redundant Power Supply guarantees even higher availability of the codecs.About MAYAH Communications GmbH The company’s main objective is the development and distribution of innovative high quality solutions for real-time audio and audio/video communications in broadcast and corporate networks.
